LGBTQ+ Task Force, kick-off meeting 10/28
Posted: 10/24/2024 9:08 pm
We are excited to launch the LGBTQ+ Task Force this year with our first in-person meeting on Monday, October 28th from 6:45-8:00 at Brookline High School (room to be announced). Even if you have never been involved in the LGBTQ Task Force before, this is a great time to join!
The LGBTQ+ Task Force meets 1x a month in-person or on Zoom. It’s a great way to get involved in LGBTQ+ advocacy in the town of Brookline, and to get to know other people who care about LGBTQ+ issues.
We have picked 4 priority areas to focus on this year:
More Inclusive District-wide Systems & Policies
-
Pushing for changes in how Aspen/x2 lists names for rosters, substitute lists, and ID cards.
-
Encouraging the district to adopt policy for the establishment of gender inclusive bathrooms in future construction
-
Publicizing policies for students and families around name changes
Social Networking for LGBTQ+ Students & Families
-
Creating events for parents and caregivers of LGBTQ+ youth to be able to meet and share resources with each other.
-
Establishing district-wide meet-ups for LGBTQ+ students who attend all different schools around Brookline.
Health Curriculum
-
Support updates to middle and high school health curriculum to make it more LGBTQ+-inclusive.
Creating LGBTQ Resource Guides for Teachers, Students & the Community
-
Support teachers and parents with updated resources on the BPS website, staff portal and other newsletters.
-
Connect to the Office of Equity and Diversity in an effort to include LGBTQ+ information on the website and through other platforms for families and staff.
-
Creating LGBTQ+-specific lesson ideas for teachers
At our in-person meeting on Monday, October 28th, we will break into these groups and establish our specific goals for the year. Snacks and drinks will be provided!
We hope that you can join us in supporting our LGBTQ+ community!
