Brookline Thrives Summer 2023 Volunteer Opportunities
Posted: 6/30/2023 12:42 pm
I’m quite overwhelmed, and a little bit thrilled, that the 2022-2023 school year has come to a successful end! It truly has been a humbling experience for me -- not just because I got to work along side Kim, the schools and the families -- but honestly I am overwhelmed by how welcome YOU ALL made me feel and by your fierce dedication to Brookline Thrives.
THANK YOU! Thank you to the dedicated volunteers -- the students from BHS, the many community groups, and all of the individuals -- who come week in week out to pack with us. Thank you to the bag packing shift leaders, the in-school delivery liaisons, the school delivery truck teams, the Friday community pickup liaisons, and anyone else I've forgotten. Without you all Thrives just couldn't happen.
Have a fabulous summer. I'll be in touch later in the summer as we prepare for next year, Sharon.
Summer Volunteer Opportunities
Brookline Food Pantry
Please consider helping the Brookline Food Pantry. Many of the Pantry's regular volunteers are away during the summer, so extra help is always needed. If interested, please email the Pantry's operations manager, Arielle Chernin (arielle@brooklinefoodpantry.org). If you volunteer with Thrives, please mention that in your email.
Summer Meals Kickoff Event
The Brookline Food Services Department will be kicking off the summer with their ‘Summer Eats Kick-off Event’ on Thursday, July 6th at Brookline Avenue Playground, 575 Brookline Avenue Brookline. They are seeking volunteers to assist with various activities at this event starting between 12:00pm to 6:00 pm. If interested please Sign Up here to be a general event volunteer.
One Final Celebration for Kim (actually we had two!)
Last week we had a small gathering with some Thrives volunteers to say our goodbyes to Kim. Thanks to all who came out and helped make a small dent in a huge cake! I know many of you had summer plans already in place, Grade 8 Graduations to attend and yes, work commitments!
We missed you!
Brookline Rotary Distinguished Community Award
Since 1941, Brookline Rotary has chosen to honor select individuals for exceptional service to the Brookline community. This year they honored Kim! I was privileged to sit in on the ceremony. We first listened to Thrives Shift Leader Laura Walters give a lovely introductory speech echoing all of our sentiments on how marvelous Kim is! And then we heard from Kim herself, outlining the obstacles faced starting Thrives and building it into the community wide organization it is today.
And a final note to Kim... You are a phenomenal person, a relentless advocate for our community, and a truly hard worker with a heart of gold. You brighten up every room with your smile and, as the saying goes, you can talk the hind legs off a donkey... It has been my absolute privilege to work alongside you. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of Thrives; and I will do my best to carry on your legacy. All the best, always Sharon.
