Brookline Thrives Updates & Needs, Week of Jan 2-6, 2023

Happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, full of lights, friends and family. We have several open volunteer spots this first week of January - a perfect opportunity to kick start your new year's resolutions by volunteering with us! Have a college student home on break? Send them to us!

VOLUNTEER NEEDS - We have several open bag packing spots this week for all shifts. Sign up here if you can help. Remember to click the > next to January at the top of the calendar to see February dates. Alternatively, to view the signup by volunteer role, click "List View" at the top right corner of the calendar.

We are also recruiting volunteers to help deliver Thrives bags to Pierce School classrooms starting January 5. This is a critical piece to ensuring students receive their Thrives bags on Fridays at school. If interested in learning more about Pierce classroom deliveries, please email Sharon Brockmann at sharon@brooklinefoodpantry.org. Classroom delivery volunteers must be at least 15 years old.

EXCITING NEWS! The minimum age requirement for bag packing has been lowered to 12 years old. Students ages 12-14 may volunteer to pack bags IF accompanied by a parent or responsible adult (not a sibling). A parent / responsible adult may bring no more than three (3) children ages 12-14 to a bag packing shift. The parent / responsible adult must volunteer at the same time. For all other Thrives volunteer opportunities, the minimum age requirement is still 15 years old.

To pack Thrives bags with a child(ren) ages 12-14, follow these simple steps:

  1. The Parent/Responsible Adult must sign up as the Volunteer.
  2. Add the name of the accompanying child(ren) in the Comment field (applicable only for children ages 12-14).
  3. Select the total number of people volunteering in the Quantity field (adult + number of children ages 12-14). One adult may bring no more than 3 children.
  4. Complete and return this waiver. You may email the completed waiver to thrives@brooklinefoodpantry.org or bring it to your first shift.

The lowered age requirement applies only to Bag Packing shifts. The minimum age for all other volunteer shifts is still 15 years old.

We look forward to ringing in 2023 with our amazing volunteers, both new and returning!
