Trees in our Midst!

There’s a new, beautifully illustrated book in the school library that you and your children may want to check out. A Forest in the City by Andrea Curtis traces the history of trees and how the growth of cities led to the creation of parks like the Muddy River and others in Brookline. It describes the challenges of keeping trees in cities and what we can do to make sure our urban forest survives and thrives.
Donations of A Forest in the City to all the school and town libraries were made by Brookline Mothers Out Front, a climate activism group who has partnered with Brookline’s Division of Parks and Open Space to publicize Brookline’s Front Yard Tree Planting Program. A bookplate at the front of the book tells interested students and their families about the program — and how to find out if their home qualifies for a free tree in their own yard. Look for it now!
